Alumni Softball Game

February 2013

I was sad that I couldn't join in the fun at the softball game with the other Biola alumni, nor could I tell anyone why I couldn't play (that whole pregnancy thing) since it was still a secret. I did have a great time catching up with everyone and meeting Krista's twins! It is always a good time to watch a fun softball game.

End of an Era

As January ended so did our rivalry with APU.
Paul and I were there to witness the last BU vs. APU basketball games.

Doyers Game

Hutchie, Leslie, Paul and I went to the ball game on July 15th.
It was 60s Fireworks night (aka Beatles night)

Sadly they got into trouble fast, and never recovered!

Then it was time for the fireworks

We had a great time, too bad the score wasn't in our favor.

Are you ready for some baseball!

VGCC sponsored a Padres game complete with BBQ before hand at a price we couldn't refuse. Paul and I met up with Jason and David at church, had a nice time talking and enjoying the food. Around 530 people started packing up and heading over to the game. Paul has always wanted to try the SD Trolley so we drove down to JACK MURPHY parked for free and hopped on the trolley. It was about a 20 minute trip. I loved not having to deal with any downtown traffic or one-way streets! We sat with the Laughtenbach and had a nice time cheering on the Padres and talking about what has been going on in our lives. Paul had to drive home after the game so even though it was tied in the 10th we left, something that we generally frown upon.

After taking the trolley back to the car we swung by Amy's new place to check it out. Then Paul dropped me back off at moms, grabbed his stuff and headed for home and a very meepy kitty.

Soon as I got home I of course looked up the score to see who won. Padres won 6-5 over the Reds with a walk off home run in the 16th inning.

Fooseball

Paul and I, Erin and the girls, Kjirsten, Sydney, Derrick and their son all converged on the Henning household this evening to watch the Chargers game. Hot dogs and steaks were BBQ'ed, a fruit bowl was snacked on, Erin and Kj brought some yummy desserts to share. At half time we decided to break out Catan as Paul and I received it from my mom for Christmas. I think we may have some new fans of Catan! Now to procure some of those expansion packs...

Everyone was suprised & excited to see SD pull out a win in OT! Go CHARGERS

Cosmic Bowling

Nov. 29th we headed out in the evening to bowl. We have not been bowling in forever, and it totally shows. Paul won the first game and Cyndi won the second game. After this evening I have decided that we need to go bowling more often (any takers).

Homecoming Weekend

On Friday October 24th I counted down the minutes till I could jet out of work, hop in my car and fly down the freeway to SD. Why you may ask? For because my dear TK came all the way from Colorado for a whirlwind of a visit. Once I made it to mom's I chatted with T and Richard for a few before he took off for the evening. T and I headed over to Subway to grab some sandwiches. Picked up Tiffany and went over to our Alma Mater Serra High to see the "Q dawgs" 2008 homecoming game. Our good buddies Erin and her daughter Hadley as well as Tif's parents and sister all met up for a mini reunion of sorts. We had a good time hanging out and watching our boys in a victorious fight against La Jolla!
The game itself was a nail biter. There were punches thrown, shirt grabbing and swinging around of players. A failed field goal attempt that would have tied the game when we were down by 3 because a La Jolla player some how tackled the ref! It all came down to the last minute and a half when Serra made some great gains and completed a couple awesome passes. We thought they were going to have to kick it and settle for a tie but the boys pulled it together and were able to pull out a win. Final score of 21-17!
On Saturday we slept in a bit, did some shopping my mom found a shirt that looked really good on her, sadly we did not find any pants that were petite in length and I got a beautiful shirt that looks really good on me (thank you TK) Ineed to go shopping more often with T (did I really just say I NEED to go shopping?), we rented a couple movies, and enjoyed just hanging out together.

Sunday began with church. We grabbed a quick lunch and then headed out to the harvest festival at Del Mar fair grounds. Mom, T and I looked around at all the incredible and some scary (fish) sculptures that people had created. Both Mom and TK picked up some lovely necklaces and a ring. Before long the three of us had to head home where we packed up, had dinner, took back the rentals, took a spin around Tierrasanta since it has been 8 years since TK has been back and then I bored T with hundreds of photos from Alaska. Too quickly it became time to head to the airport so that T wouldnt miss her plane.

See you in November friend.

Friday Night Baseball

On Friday night we took a trip out to Dodger Stadium. The day before, the most exciting player on the Red Sox, Man-Ram himself was traded to the Dodgers. I think it will weaken the Red Sox enough to keep them out of the playoffs, and put the Dodgers in the playoffs just long enough to be swept out of the first round. Again. But, for at least the next two months, we get some Manny Being Manny here at Dodger Stadium. It was his first game in Dodger blue, so the crowd went nuts every time they mentioned his name. Field a routine fly ball? Make an out? That's a standing ovation there. Even though the Dodgers lost, it was still nice thinking that they still had a chance as soon as Manny came up again.

Best trade the Dodgers have made in years...

Random sports stuff...

When the Rams released 63 year old wide receiver Isaac Bruce last week, I joked to my Ram fan friend Pablo that the 49ers would probably sign him and pair him with Darrell Jackson to form the NFL's first geriatric receiving corp. Looks like the jokes on me. It actually happened 2 days later. I weep for my team. I actually thought they were pulling it together before last season.

Golfer Tripp Isenhour is in trouble with the law for hitting a protected hawk with a golf ball and trying to cover it up. Luckily for me, I don't think the duck I shot down back in high school was endangered. Isenhour also took several shots to hit his bird, so I guess we all know who the better golfer is.

Usually it takes me a while to get in the mood for the baseball season to start, but I was very happy when I happened to find the first Dodgers spring training game on the radio last week. I have no idea how they'll do this year. I hope Joe Torre plays the young guys more than Grady Little did last year. They've got a lot of talent there, but they need the experience of playing every day.

Shockingly, the worst Red Sox move this year is actually working out. Here's hoping Bartolo Colon makes the roster and takes a game against the Angels. I can hear Nick screaming already. =)

It's getting close to the time of year when I actually pay attention to basketball. The tournament brackets should be out this week and the NBA is close to the playoffs. I don't like most of the Lakers, but since I don't have favorite team, I just root for the hometown.

Catch-Up: Its gunna be a long one

When we last spoke I was exhausted, I am still recovering.
So Paul and I (during opposite shifts) helped Jeric move. There was much heavy lifting, moving boxes and some good time spent hanging out and talking while moving boxes and heavy lifting. I have quite a few bruises to show for it, at last count 7 (guess I should start taking iron pills again).

While Paul was doing the moving and lifting thing with Jeric I was at the alumni softball game. SO much fun! I love getting together and seeing the old crew (hi Jen!) Every year I realize how much I miss playing on a regular basis... anyone know of a team I can join?

Sunday was Mommys birthday so I headed down to SD. I showed up at her house with her starbucks drink and some flowers. We ran some errands and grabbed a sandwich for lunch. Then I headed to Tiffany's baby shower. It was nice to catch up with KJ, Annie, Rori, Nicole and Erin while celebrating Tiffany becoming a mommy for the second time.

After the shower Mom and I decided to take a drive up to one of the local Indian Casinos since we had two free dinners at the buffet. We had a nice dinner and a good time playing some slots. We also got to hear a concert by the Wallflowers. Then we headed home and to bed as I started not feeling so good.

Monday we went out for breakfast to the Original Pancake House. Ran some more errands, did some laundry. Went to see Fool's Gold

Then we had to take Meeko to the vet for her yearly shots and check-up. She did not enjoy getting shots at all and auctually hissed really hissed at the vet. I felt so bad for my little kitty. We were told she is getting a little chunky, so I suppose we need to get a new laser pointer so she gets a bit more exercise. Afterwards we grabbed dinner and then I had to head home to get ready for the up coming week.

One day last week I started my day at 7am teaching my students and then at 2 pm I had the pleasure of taking 60 of our 8th graders to BU for a guided tour of the campus, a photo scavenger hunt, dinner in the cafe and watch the basketball game. I had a good time hanging out with the students even though our day didnt end till around 10pm.

Exhausted

Even taking a shower right now sounds like to much effort. But I feel so gross I must find the energy to do it. My day started at 9 am where I went to the Alumni Softball game (photos to come later) Once the game portion was through I hoofed it over to meet Ric at Jerics new apartment. I made it there just a couple minutes before Ric showed up with the truck. Then from 2-7pm we moved stuff. I think I have found the strength to drag myself to the shower and then into bed. Tomorrow involves driving to SD for my mommy's birthday and a baby shower. A better more energized update will come later. See you on the other side.

I called it

This afternoon we headed up to "the bra" as Paul and Bradley call it to watch the super bowl. I got some work done while others napped and read the paper and magazines. Finally it was 3pm and time for the football festivities to begin. There was much football watching and at half time Paul and Bradley had the Wii Play tournament.

We were also treated to some grilled burger, chips and dip along with brownies for dessert. I have said since I knew who was going to the super bowl that New England was going to lose. I am glad that it was a close game it kept it much more exciting. Paul was very close to winning some cash money from a squares game. But in the end when NY scored their final goal it was Bradley who ended up winning about $250.

I am sad fooseball is over but excited because that means that baseball is just around the corner. Yippy!

Shutout

7th grade volleyball was basically a warm up but then the 8th graders brought it all three games. However the staff prevailed winning all 6 games. I am so going to be sore tomorrow.

The three F's: Fresh & Easy, Food, & Fooseball

Today I took a trip over to our new market across the street Fresh and Easy. I strolled through the aisles to see what we possibly needed at home. They have people handing out samples of pumpkin pie, chocolate cake, and other bakery goodies. There's lots of good produce, and items which aren't at regular grocery stores. They have all self-checkout counters with many smiling faces to help out if you need it.

On my way out of the store I was thanked by a woman for shopping at Fresh and Easy and handed a coupon for the next time I shop for $6 off, a reusable grocery bag and a lovely bunch of roses, which cost $7 for the bouquet. Fresh and Easy won't be my main source of food buying but I will frequent the store every once in a while. Tonight I decided to make home made pizza once again. With a wheat crust, and pepperoni with some pineapple on my side. My favorite is throwing the dough around to create the crust. I think it turned out quite well. I was even able to create a crust with which to hold the slice while eating it this time. Once it was complete we sat down to enjoy our pizza dinner and watch some record breaking fooseball (Patriots/Bills).

Hockey Night!

Tonight I went to the Kings/Ducks game in Anaheim thanks to Brad.  He got some more of his VIP tickets through work so I went with him and a couple of his friends.  I don't usually get a chance to sit in a seat valued at $83 so of course I took him up on the offer.

I wore my Kings jersey so we were rooting for the Kings tonight.  Honestly I just like going to hockey games, so I don't have a favorite between the Kings and Ducks.  I find myself at Kings games more often though so I may have to go LA if I pick a team.  I'm sure Jeric will have some influence on that too.

The Kings and Ducks really don't like each other.  The Ducks reminded them of that fact early and often and there were numerous fights and cheap shots taken.  The Ducks scored two quick goals in the first period, although the Kings were able to tie it before all was said and done.  No one scored in overtime.  As soon as the final second of the clock ticked by in overtime, the Ducks starting attacking the Kings.  Guess there wasn't any reason to hold back at that point.  I got to see a shootout for the first time which the Ducks ended up winning.  I guess it helps to have a good, experienced goalie.

Baseball been berry berry good to me

If you like the Red Sox or baseball you should check this out.

Woo hoo!

The Red Sox showed signs of life tonight and won game 5 of the ALCS to send the series back to Boston for game 6 (and hopefully game 7).  The Indians did everything they could to get to Sox pitcher Josh Beckett including having his ex-girlfriend sing the national anthem.  They claim they had no idea the two had dated, but seeing as how no one has heard of her before tonight and she was a last minute replacement when Boston announced Beckett would pitch today, I don't buy it.  This will also keep our Idyllwild baseball streak alive.  We always go over to the pizza parlor in town and watch a playoff game while we're on our October camping trip.  If the series had ended tonight we'd be out of luck.  I'm just hoping this doesn't turn out like 2003 when the game we saw had Aaron Boone hit a walk off homerun to help the Yankees knock the Sox out of the playoffs.

It ain't over til Manny says it's over.

Friday Night Fun

Paul's work got some free Kings tickets and since they couldn't take the boys the staff took them. We left early and headed up to grab dinner at Souplantation before going to the game.

Luckily there was still some $6 parking when we got there just 20 min before the game was to start. We walked around for a bit, checked out the team store and found our seats. Suprisingly not many of the staff showed up for the game. After the second period we got up to go see if we could meet up with Jeric to hang out for a few minutes. It is to bad we didn't have longer to hang out with them.
Sadly the Kings lost to the Boston Bruins but we had some excitment as Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Milo Ventimiglia were all at the game just below our seats on center ice. Here are some photos of the evening for your viewing pleasure.
