Applied

I have sent in an application to The Biggest Loser. It is a long shot that for me to be picked but I wanted to let all of you on the short list the heads up that someone from the show may be calling. These had to be people in the area: Jeric, Erin Collins, Beth Zab, Henning, Bradley and TK. Thank you all for volunteering in advance ;) I am quite proud that I created an actual DVD on my computer including a cool opening, a photo montage with music and me speaking on the track along with video of me around town. For my first time taking, creating and editing a video I think I did a pretty good job.

Now we all pray that if it is to be, it will be. No matter what I will forge ahead with my miles and weight lifting at the BU gym. I heart my track buddies.

My Weekend = DRAMA

Morgan and I headed down to SD on Friday night. We were on our way to Amy's apartment when while on College a truck that was two lanes over decided to move into our lane (left turn) but his right blinker remained on. I joked to Morgan that we had better stay away from that guy and stayed back an extra half car length so we could see what he was going to do when he turned. We made our way on to Montezuma and he was driving fine but a little slow so I decided to go around him. About a block and a half later while he was in the left lane and we were in the right he decided to make a RIGHT turn and plowed into the side of my car. I was not impressed.

I had barely gotten the car turned off and opened the door when he came running over apologizing. He reeked of alcohol and he just kept saying my buddy told me to turn right so I did (no one was in the car with him), I just wasn't thinking. My tire was hissing, rim is bent, and possibly the axle. Part of the plastic around the wheel was bent up inside the back door. The door seems a bit bent and just a couple of scratches.

This damage was caused by his front bumper hitting the side of my car. My back hurts and I have been to the doctor. I have been given muscle relaxers and have to go back at the end of this week if it is not feeling better. I am just thankful that I was able to steady the car and that it wasn't any worse than it is. We could have easily been spun around and gone into another car parked on the side of the road, or a house or wall that were also right near where this happened.

My car has just been picked up from my moms house and towed to a repair shop that our insurance company deals with. Now I wait to hear from the adjuster and the collision repair shop to see just how bad the damage is...

Read this in the voice of Comic Book Guy. It helps get the point across.

No, no, Mr. Underage Drunk Guy...take our car. We don't want it. It's more important for you to get your party on than for us to drive to work or anything like that. So go ahead...turn down imaginary streets from whatever lane you want. We don't mind. As long as your car can still drive, everything is a-ok.

Stuff from this week...

-- Tomorrow (Friday) I'm supposed to have my second wisdom tooth out. It was supposed to be today, but due to my blood thinners, I can't really have last minute surgeries. I've been running around for the past couple of days trying to get everything cleared with the dentist, oral surgeon, coumadin clinic, and my regular doctor. If everything works out perfectly, I'll be knocked out by 11am.

-- Saturday is Cyndi's annual MS Walk down in Sandy Eggo. I couldn't go last year, but depending on how the tooth thing goes, I'm penciled in to walk this year. As of right now, her team is at $955 raised, close to the goal of $1000. Thank you to all who have donated so far.

-- I found out I'm down to my last two projects for my photo class. This next one is working with Photoshop (hence my first attempt to put Torii Hunter on the Dodgers as seen below). The guy in all the intro videos made it look easy, but it's really frustrating for the perfectionist in me. We'll see what I can come up with for my next due date in two weeks.

-- Today was my annual CPR training at work. The video they show is new, but still annoying. By the end of the year, the Red Cross is getting rid of the breathing part of CPR, so it will be even shorter than it was this time around.

-- The NFL draft this weekend should be good. The 49ers made a wise choice and gave their top pick to the Patriots for some magic beans, so I'm sure it will all work out for the best. I'm sure this is our year! ....sigh.

Wow! Sad News.

Dear Biola Family,
Tonight it is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved friend and leader, President Emeritus Clyde Cook.
After returning this afternoon from speaking in Houston, Dr. Cook was at home this evening with his wife Anna Belle when he passed away and entered the presence of the Lord.
This news has stunned us all. We grieve deeply with Anna Belle, Laura, Craig and their family. I promised Anna Belle tonight that their Biola University family would prayerfully stand with them through these days of extraordinary loss.
Dr. Cook was long loved by this community and has truly impacted the world for the Lord Jesus Christ through countless lives. We will miss him dearly.
More details regarding the memorial services will be announced in the days ahead.
Yours in Christ,
Barry H. Corey
President
Biola University

Photo Class: Portraits

I finally had to turn in my portraits in photo class last Wednesday. These are some of the ones I came up with. I wasn't too happy with them, but the class seemed to like them. Either they're being too nice or I'm too critical of myself. More than likely it's a combination of the two. I want to get better at portraits anyway, so I'll keep working on them. Here are some of the ones I turned in. Click photos to make bigger, and any advice is always appreciated.

Journal 4/7/08

I stayed home from work today. I've been feeling dizzy since Saturday night. I tried to get a doctor's appointment, but they said they were full until next Tuesday. I just rested at home and drank lots of water. So far so good. It seems like it's going away whatever it was.

My NCAA bracket ended up winning the Brendoman league, and coming in second in the Banker's Bunch, Rhymes With Gin, and Optimist leagues. My work league would have won me a bunch. I had Kansas picked to win, but had Memphis losing a couple rounds ago which cost me.

Not much else going on today. I have to get up real early tomorrow so I should go to bed now.

Tuesday the 25th of March

Mom and I headed up to Simi Valley to visit with my Aunt Carol and Uncle Barry. Carol prepared a delicious salad for lunch. We sat around talking for hours. We were sad that Joy and Ryan weren't around to join us but I am sure their will be many more chances for us to catch up with them as well. Barry took a couple of photos before we left so maybe I can get a copy to post in the near future.

The One Where I Could Have Died....

Last Thursday night (the 27th) I was driving home from my parents house. I was going down the 605 freeway when I heard what sounded like a backfire behind me. It happened a second time, this time a little closer. I looked around expecting to find some old clunker out there, but they were all newer cars that shouldn't be making sounds like that.

That's when a car came speeding past me. As he was passing, I heard the noise again real loud and saw a small flash from the top of the car's mostly rolled up window. a bad sound came from my car as well. I was trying to figure out what happened, when I watched the car pass another car and a truck up ahead. Both times he passed them, there was another flash and loud pop sound.

I got off at the next exit (the one I wanted anyway), and pulled into a gas station. The headlight was all cracked and pushed in on the side. I'm pretty sure I got shot at! I drove home a little shaken. When I went to work the next day, I found out that a certain widespread gang was having their initiation week. There had been shootings on a couple other freeways as well.

Luckily there wasn't much damage. If I ever decide to become a gangsta, I now have a little street cred. My brother asked if I had at least thrown up my sign (whatever it may be) at them before they got away. I guess I'll have to remember that for next time. For now, I'm just glad that they didn't have good aim.

To top it all off

Pray this goes away quickly!!!!!It all started with a bump this morning on my ankle and I figured I had a spider bite or something then by the end of the day I noticed i had a line of red bumps from my wrist to my elbow. I thought "That's odd" and called my mom about it.
She said GO TO THE DOCTOR.

So I did and I have apparently caught scabies from who knows where. Scabies is a mite that burrows under your skin and your skin has an alergic reaction causing red bumps on various parts of your body. It is contagious so I am on a mini quarantine for the next day and cannot have skin to skin contact with anyone.

It itches so dang bad! The problem is you can't itch because that could open the skin and cause a secondary infection which would just make things worse. I have now noticed bumps on my shoulders, backs of my arms, both ankles and calves. So unpleasant.

The way you get rid of the little buggers is by putting a cream on your body from head to toe in every crevice you can, even trying to get it up under your nails. Then you wait 12-14 hours and take a shower. This should kill them. Your body will still take about 3 weeks to recover from the alergic reaction and thus you will ITCH for just that long.

Bad news for Paul is that anyone living in the house with the infected person also has to put the cream on from head to toe. All of our sheets, mattress cover, clothes etc. had to be washed today on the hottest setting.

FAMILY NEEDS PRAYER!

Updates:
Wayne is still in the hospital. He had a tube put down into his lungs to try and get rid of the fluid but it did not change his status. Wayne is still on a ventilator and is being moved down to Tampa to a rehabilitation center that focuses on patients who have ventilators. There was talk that he would need a trach and would likely be dependent on oxygen for the rest of his life.

New Stuff:
Another of my moms brothers Randy had recently told us that he had been stumbling and fainted a couple times. It was apparently a bit more serious than that as I was told today he was hospitalized and the doctors said he was having strokes.

Monday the 24th of March

We stayed at a hotel just a couple miles away from our activity of the day which was going to: The Price Is Right!

Which truly was an ALL day event. But we enjoyed ourselves and had fun. Sadly we did not get asked to come on down but a girl sitting two seats over from me did. So maybe we will be TV stars. The show airs on the 18th of April for anyone interested.

Belated, On Time, Early

Happy Happy Birthday!

Beth: the big 3-1 (we so need a photo together, this was the only photo I could find!)

Amanda-Panda: I cannot believe you are 20 already!

Becky: Cheers. Hope you have a fabulous birthday!

Don't faint... I am wearing a dress

Paul and I enjoyed the day together on Good Friday as it was the first day of my spring break. On Saturday I headed down to SD as I needed to get the kitties to the pet hotel while my mom and I would be gone. It was quite the traumatizing experience for ME! After the kitties were safely taken care of I went over to SDSU to pick up the SIL. We had dinner and then hung out at the house doing laundry and whatnot. On Sunday we got up early and headed over to church.

Here's mom and I after the service. We had an invitation to the Robinson's for brunch so that is where we headed next. It seemed like everyone was there, so many of our old neighbors and friends. It was a treat to see the Butterfields again and catch up on all that is going on. Sadly their kids were not able to make the trip out but it sounds like they are doing some pretty exciting things with their lives.

After brunch mom and I headed back home to finish getting packed for the adventures that laid ahead for the remainder of the week. Then we headed to L.A.

We're still here...

Our last post was #900 for this blog, and also marked 150 days straight of posting. This last week we were busy and not home much, so our streak ended there. We decided to take the rest of March off and start back up for April. It's late and I have to be up at 5am again, so I'm not going to post anything real good right now. I will tease you with some of our upcoming topics including our place in baseball history and my near death experience this week. Stay tuned!
