Happy Birthday!

Saturday, March 11

We drove out to Rivertucky today to celebrate Abby's 3rd birthday and Drew's 2nd birthday.
They were surrounded by family and friends.
We ate pizza and cake and played games at Straw Hat Pizza.

Josh, Shawn and Paul hanging out and goofing off.

Trifecta

Sunday, March 5- Monday, March 6

Paul took James out to Riverside while Cyndi picked up Abby and Drew from Nick's parents on Sunday. Paul had James fed, changed (clothes and diaper), and in bed before Cyndi got there with Abby and Drew. Then it was time to get blankies, binkies and milk so everyone could get in bed. Paul helped out again by changing Drew (clothes and diaper) while Cyndi helped Abby get ready for bed. After everyone was in bed we watched the Oscar's (thank goodness for Tivo). Paul had to head home since he had to work in the morning. Cyndi stayed over night and watched the kids on Monday. Cyndi took them to the park so they could run around and play. Then it was home for nap time. Paul met up with everyone again after he got done with work. We played some more, fed the little ones and then got ready for bedtime. Cyndi took off around 10pm since she had to work early the next morning and Paul stayed at the Askews until Moe and Nick got home.

Drew on the slide. They insisted a couple times that Cyndi go down the slide with both Abby and Drew on her lap. It was lots of fun, Cyndi hadn't been on a slide in a long while.

Abby smiling for the camera, and Drew peeking out from behind the railing.

James decided to take a nap while his brother and sister played.

James Sitting

Saturday, March 4
We decided to go on an outting and drove over to d-land. We walked around for a bit. We took James on Winnie the Pooh (twice) and Pirates. Good times, Good times.

Singing Sensation

Friday, March 3
We picked up James from Casa de Askew, hung out at our apartment and got everything set up for the youngsters weekend with us. Then we headed up to the ALH to see Amy sing. For the most part the solos, duets, and trios sounded good and some even great. There was however the occasional singer who should not ever think about trying out for Am. Idol. We had fun and the desserts were tasty too.

Two Hearts Beat As One?

I started my "Updates" post at work just a couple of minutes before Cyndi started her "Update" post from home. Guess we really do think alike.

Update

We are beginning to get our computer up and running again but we have to reinstall everything. So hopefully in the next day or so I can get photos and updates from the weekend posted. Thank You for your patience while we had our techincal difficulties.

Updates....

It's been a while since we posted anything, partly because of the computer issues, partly because of being slackers. I figure I should at least post a rundown of what's been going on...maybe we'll get some real posts done soon.

I managed to get the computer fixed. Sherida was right...the geeksquad was a waste of time. We ended up losing everything though. I still can't get the audio to work at all.

Work has been busy. I got 3 new kids this week. We haven't had the full 6 in the house for quite a while. I also got 2 new staff last week to add to the 2 other new ones I've had since January. It's been tough since there is so much to know, and I'm the only one left who can teach them anything. It's been a rough transition, and getting 3 new kids at once didn't help at all.

We managed to see 3 of the Best Picture nominees before the Oscars: Crash, Munich, and Brokeback Mountain. Munich was my favorite of those, but none were what I would consider great movies. I was glad to see the awards spread out so much instead of a movie that was just ok dominating the whole thing like in other years.

We babysat James for the Askews while they were checking out Oregon this weekend. Except for the constant barfing due to acid reflux, he was really easy to deal with...not much fussing, goes to sleep easy and lets you sleep in a bit, and is cute and silly enough to even make you forgive all the barf. Cyndi, being the brave woman she is, tackled having all 3 Askew kids by herself for the last day. Talk about a crash course in mommying.

The Amazing Race is on. I think I should be able to watch it all this season.

Arrested Development is still not on. That makes Franklin cry.

I saw an Oingo Boingo tribute band a few weeks ago. They rocked!

We went to see my sister Amy sing at a fundraiser event for her high school choir trip. Her trio sounded good, and there were a few other girls that did too. There was also a good number of people who shouldn't have been singing solo or with the whole choir.

I'm still continuing my job search even though O.C. probation didn't work out for me this time around. This should be a full post so I'm not going to say much more on it until I can do it justice.

Good News... Bad News - Updated

My Uncle Ron had surgery to remove a growth in his lungs, it was cancerous and they are doing further testing to make sure that it has not spread. Right now they are making sure that there is no cancer in his lymph nodes. The good news is he is recovering and will hopefully not have to undergo any radiation.

The bad news is a long time neighbor Mr. Beurskens passed away late last week. He was a kind man and will be missed by many. The good news is he is in heaven and is no longer in any pain. Many neighbors, and members of both Vista Grande Church and College Ave. attended services to celebrate his life.

My Sweet Valentine

I was in San Diego this past weekend with my mom for her b-day and when I came home on Monday I walked up and saw this out side our door.
Then as I walked inside I noticed the whole apartment had been clean, dishes washed and put away, clutter cleared, trash taken out etc. There was also a card on the coffee table and my sweetie waiting for me. =)

On Valentines Day we hung out and read the paper as it is rare that we are both home during the morning hours. For lunch we went to Lucilles BBQ . Yummy! We have been there once before last August for my birthday. It is always a great place to eat.
Then it was time to head home and Paul had to head out to work. That would have been my least favorite part of the day but we did have a fantastic day together.

*The Demo Girls*

After church Morgan and I swung by my mom's to pick her up we went over to Home Depot and bought a bunch of bags full of woodchips and ate lunch.
Then it was off to the yard to tear down the shed. I got to use a pick ax thing which was really fun. We demolished the thing. Now my mom just needs to get a large create thing so we can put all the scraps and rocks and yard clippings in it and have it all hauled away.
I only had minor abrasions. A nail got my leg and a piece of wood stabbed me in the hand. Other than that just some bruises and a lot of dirt.

Preach It.

Sunday morning I was able to go to Vista Grande Church in San Diego. I forget how much I miss my old church family until I visit again. This morning the Pastor spoke about second chances. And spoke of how our God is the God of the Second Chance. Pastor Silvestri used many passages but one that really stuck out to me was

Psalm 145:14 "God gives a hand to those down on their luck, gives a fresh start to those ready to quit."

Alumni Softball Game

Saturday afternoon I went to an Alumni Luncheon/Softball Game. It was so wonderful to see so many of my old teammates. Logsdon is preggers and a personal trainer, Fluck is training to be a paramedic, J.Lo. is going to nursing school, Krista is teaching 3rd grade. We had so much fun catching up with each other. There were 15 alumni that showed up for lunch and the game. I look forward to seeing some games this year and hopefully having the opportunity to play in the Alumni Game next year.

Warm-up

New Experience

On Saturday we decided to get out and go somewhere. Cyndi has never been to the race track and it has been years since Paul has gone so we decided to head up to Santa Anita. This is the best parking price we have seen in a long time only $4. We headed to the enterance and what do you know some man is handing out free general admission (normally $5 per person) SCORE.
We spent the day placing $2 bets on horses, watching the races, going to the stables to watch the horses, and seeing the jockeys get on their horses to ride onto the track. We had a great time. The only thing that was pricy was food and they don't check so when we go back again we know that we can pack a picnic and eat there. They even have a playground in the middle of the track and a big screen. Paul was messing around with the camera, hense the photo below.

Exorcist

Friday brought me a day of fun. I was subbing for a third grade class in Orange Unified. Everything was going fine until first recess. A girl came back from speech early and said she wasn't feeling well and can she go to the nurse. It was right before recess so I believed she was really sick. She was in the nurses office for all of recess and came back about 10 min. after recess was over. She handed me the note that said she didn't have a fever and no one was at home.
Okay fine, so I said go ahead and have a seat and put your head down. She sat down and I started working with the group at the back table, After a minute I looked up and noticed that two students were standing next to her and that she was crying. She said she felt really sick. So I decided to send her back to the nurse. She came up to the front and I started writing the note. Before I put pen to paper she let loose, and threw up all over the front of the classroom. Oy! I was thinking "you win" the nurse was way wrong.
So the aide walked her to the nurse and I got the rest of the class lined up and we went out for a second recess. The class thought this was great since they got to play while we waited for the mess to be cleaned up. Good times. Remarkably this is the first time I have had a student throw up in the classroom let alone inches from my shoes.

Time for a lobotomy!

Some of you might know that I've been having headaches lately. And by lately, I mean daily. And by daily, I mean all day every day. Since mid November. Long ago I got to the point where I didn't even think about it much unless it was really bad. They are just always there.

I've been to the doctor several times. They keep prescribing meds that are supposed to be really powerful. So far they've done nothing. I might as well have taken nothing at all. Advil dulls the pain some, but other than that I haven't found anything that has any effect.

Anyway, they finally scheduled me for a CT scan tomorrow afternoon. I really hope they find something, just so I know what's going on. At this point I think I'd feel worse if they didn't know what was causing them and therefore couldn't do anything to make it better.

I made it 25.867 sec. How long can you go for?

Marco...

POLO!

Yes, I have decided to ask the readers of this blog for their opinion. My mom and I will be going on a cruise sometime before August, because on the cruise we took this summer to Hawaii my luggage got lost and it was a whole to do about when it would show up, and Paul had to constantly call and track where it was and talked them into flying it from one side of the island to the other the cruise line gave us $$$ off if we went on another cruise within the year. We also got reimbursed plus a little from the airline for the things I had to buy to keep myself clothed while we waited for my clothes to show up. Anyways, since Paul doesn't know when he will be working or where my mom and I will be going. We aren't sure where we want to go. Any suggestions?

Happy New Year

We wanted to be with family to ring in 2006. So we drove up to the ALH and played cards, ate yummy desserts and toasted with sparkling cider. The winner of the evening was Jean.
Sadly the night ended a bit early because my in-laws puppy was sick and needed to be taken to the doggy doctor (she passed away a few days later). She will be missed.
