Speechless

Tim Drake on Tweeting about Abortions --
"Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the Culture of Death rears another of its many ugly heads.

Those who brought us the “I Had an Abortion” T-shirts and other abortion-wear, are now proudly tweeting about their actions on Twitter.

Salonr reported on the online campaign, which started last Wednesday. Women, using the hashtag #ihadanabortion, began boasting that they, too, had ended the life of their unborn children. Organizers say that the reason for the campaign is to “promote empowerment and take the ‘stigma’ out of abortion.”

It’s not the first time a woman has taken to the Internet to share what she’s done to her unborn child.

Last February, Angie Jackson, took to Twitter to live-tweet her abortion after taking the abortion-inducing drug RU-486.

“It’s not that bad, it’s not that scary,” wrote Jackson. “It’s basically like a miscarriage.”

Salon writer Tracy Clark-Flory compared Jackson’s efforts to that of watching a medical procedure online for having a tooth extracted.

Flory described the #IHADANABORTION campaign as a “part of a long tradition of feminist consciousness-raising.”

“I’m not sorry. I’ve never been sorry. I will never be sorry,” wrote one tweeter.

“Yep, #IHADANABORTION..more than one, now that I am ready I am now 7 months pregnant w/ my 2nd child…my body, my decision!” wrote another.

Has life become so trivialized that women can so callously talk with pride of killing their unborn son or daughter? What’s next? Online videos of women’s babies being aborted?

Lori Ziganto, writing over at the NewsRealBlog, offers a great perspective on the campaign.

Not only does such a campaign trivialize life, but it also ignores the very real experiences of so many other women, and men, who have been traumatized by their decision to have an abortion, women routinely seen on the television show “Faces of Abortion.” Women like Carla, (in the video) who are not only sorry for the decision they made, but also unable to forget what they’ve done, and the thousands of women who’ve gone through post-abortion retreats through Rachel’s Vineyard.

The #IHADANABORTION campaign is a sad commentary on where we’ve come as a nation."

Chesterton cops say woman had merchandise in pants

By Times Staff Saturday, September 27, 2008
CHESTERTON From "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" to "Death Row" the titles of DVDs stolen from Kmart seemed to foreshadow the luck of one would-be shoplifter.A Michigan City woman pulled 19 items out of her pants -- including 10 DVDs -- Thursday after police were called to investigate a theft report.A loss prevention agent at Kmart, 750 Indian Boundary Road, on Thursday stopped Tina Yeakey, 32, of Michigan City, and her friend in the parking lot for suspected shoplifting.

According Chesterton police, the investigating officer dumped out Yeakey's purse and found two dental kits, a bottle of cologne, one toy car, 12 packs of Ponds Facial Strips, a bottle of antifungal cream, two fingernail kits and two bottles of foundation primer were stolen from the store. The officer then asked if she had taken anything else. She replied "no," according to police. When informed that she would be patted down by the officer, Yeakey unbuttoned her pants and pulled out 10 DVDs, a Play Station video game, a pair of white tube socks, a black and red bra, a black and red pair of women's underwear with the word "pouty" printed on them, three pairs of size 4T boys underwear and two women's rings.Yeakey also handed over to police a utility knife that she used to open the packages in the store.Yeakey was charged with felony theft and misdemeanor conversion. She was taken to Porter County Jail, which has no death row.

Yeakey's friend was not arrested. Police said she had no stolen items in her possession and surveillance video showed her friend did not assist her in concealing the items.

Stay Classy San Diego

T-town may not be as safe as we perceive it to be. I spent this past weekend with my mom while we were visiting she mentioned a couple things happening in the neighborhood. The first is our beloved subway being robbed. You can read the story here. The second is the McDonald's near Murphy Canyon had a stabbing. Apparently while a father and son were having lunch some ruffiants came in and were using foul language, the father asked them to please watch their mouths around the kids. When the father and son went to leave the restaurant one of the men stabbed him in the back. I can't find a news story with the exact details of this incident.

One day...

One day when I was working at Disneyland, an older man came up to me looking very lost. I asked him if he was ok and he said no. He was trying to find his family. They told him to take the tram out to the parking lot and they'd meet him there. There were 3 trams that ran to different parking areas. I talked to him for a bit and we figured out where he needed to be. It happened to be the tram I was going to be driving so I walked him over there and chatted until the tram arrived. We parted ways, and as he said thanks he shook my hand and slipped me a folded piece of paper. I glanced at the front and realized it was a Catholic tract so I just put it in my pocket. A co-worker came up to me and asked about "that old guy" and what he gave me. I pulled out the tract and opened it up to find a card for a free meal at Carl's Jr and a handwritten note....

"Thank you! Best wishes, Carl"

Tragedy

Earlier this week a student from the school I work at and was in my 6th period class underwent a family tragedy. Her step-father took the life of her mother and then tried to take his own life. Here is the full story.

This was a sweet 14 yr. old girl who's life has been turned upside down. I am unsure if she has family to live with, but if she doesn't she will be most likely put in the system.

Please pray for the family and students who were touched by this event. We did have grief counselors on campus today for any students who needed it.

R.I.P. Don "Mr. Wizard" Herbert

I used to love this show when I was a kid. Too bad I wasn't allowed to try most of his experiments at home.

Houston, we have a problem...

This picture was taken from a tv news story on parents who are protesting the fact that their kids aren't allowed to walk at graduation due to not passing the high school exit exam. It's really sad. I'm sure the parents did all they could to help their kids study for it too.

What song best describes Hillary Clinton's campaign?

Hillary Clinton is holding a contest to pick the official song of her campaign. The finalists are:

"Suddenly I see," by KT Tunstall
"Rock This Country!" by Shania Twain
"Beautiful Day" by U2
"Get Ready" by The Temptations

The U2/Hillary combo would really leave a bad taste in my mouth. What song would be more appropriate?

Breaking News!

Associated Press (9/26/2006, 2:30 PM PST)

OAKLAND , (CA)--Oakland Raiders football practice was delayed nearly two
hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery
substance on the practice field. Head coach Art Shell immediately suspended
practice and called the police and federal investigators. After a complete
analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown
to Raider players was the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after special agents decided
the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.
