Physical Therapy

The doctor said that when he got in there to give my mom a new knee that it was much worse than any scan had let on. So no wonder she was in so much pain and having difficult standing and walking. She was in quite a bit of pain last evening.

Today she began physical therapy and after breakfast she took her first few steps with the new knee. Mom says her leg is very sore this afternoon but she is on her way to recovery. Hopefully by next Christmas we wont have to go find a wheelchair for her when we go out some place.

Now for the difficult part

So at noon mom went in for surgery. Two hours later the doctor called said everything went well and she would be in recovery for a few hours before being taken to a room. She will be on much pain medication and physical therapy for the next two days at SHARP in Coronado. Updates of her progress will follow.

Manana

I do not know the time as of now but tomorrow my mom will be having knee replacement surgery! Please pray that the surgery goes well, she is not in unbearable pain and that this helps her mobility and the current pain she is in. I am leaving now to go down to her house for the next 16 days. Paul will visit on the weekends but it will be hard to be away from him for so long. At least I get to steal the kitty for part of that time. :) If you are down in SD and want to have lunch, coffee or something let me know.

Artsy

For TK's last day in California we went to the Getty museum. We took ALOT of photosI really loved a photography exhibt they had and could have stayed in here all day looking at the different compositions. One of the photographers they had did the first panoramic type pictures of San Francisco skyline. TK decided to sneak a photo of me looking at Downtown LA
Outside were some "art" sculptures. One is called curvy bottom, pointy top; now call me crazy but I would think you could come up with a better title than that in fact I think that no title would be a wiser choice.
TK and I walked through the gardens and she was very patient with me as I took photo after photo of the flowers.
Paul was off work by this time so we drove over to the in-laws for Saturday night dinner. We had a nice time chatting and eating some good BBQ even though the service wasn't great. Paul, TK and I headed home to watch Little Miss Sunshine (TK hadn't seen it) and just chill for the rest of the evening.

Thought for the day

Think forward! Concentrate on who you want to be and where you wan to go, not on who you were or where you've been.

Dinylan

Once TK had experienced DCA it was across the lot to Disneyland! We explored the park, so much has changed in the 3 years we haven't had passes. Getting to go while all the Christmas decorations are up was especially exciting. While walking around we stumbled upon incredible sitting area to watch the Parade.
The castle looked beautiful.
Although we were exhausted since TK had never seen Fantasmic we hung in there and saw the second show after the fireworks extravaganza.

DCA

As it turns out my dear friend had also never been to California Adventure so we made that our first stop to kick off the weekend.

We made it on almost every ride execpt for Tower of Terror (line was LONG) and Roaring Rapids (didn't want to get wet).

Of course I "dragged" TK into the animation center.

Next was a lesson on drawing from one of Disney's animators. Paul and I had never done this before and it was quite a treat!

Before leaving DCA we paused to take some photos with characters from The Incredibles.

City Walk

Thursday afternoon T and I headed up to Universal Studios. We walked around and looked at the shops and grabbed a bite to eat at Hard Rock Cafe and goofed around (a lot).

Then it was time to head down to the OC for a free movie preview. T and I were even picked to stay afterwards to be part of the pannel. All I have to say is babies dont take your mommas to see this one, if it makes it to a theatre! On the good side we got 2 free movie tickets a piece.

Star Struck

When we found out that TK had never been to the Walk of Stars in Hollywood we knew what our mission after work on Wednesday was. Everyone piled into the car and off we went... to sit in traffic. Once we got there it was time to seek out food, a brief stop for sandwiches and we were off to explore. The three of us walked for a short while before finding that the area in front of Groman's was blocked off. TK asked the security guard what was going on and would the area be opened up before the end of the night. It was explained to us that a movie preview was going on for Nothing Like the Holidays and if we had made it there just an hour prior they were still handing out tickets to see the movie! Down but not out we decided to wait around to see if we could catch any of the actors on their way out of the theatre. We were successful!Once all the actors left the area we were allowed back in front of the theatre so we commenced with the checking out of the hand and footprints. Down the block a little ways we found Santa's village (I KNOW HIM!) so we had to stop and grab a few photos.
At this point it was REALLY late so it was back to the car and to bed with us.

4RUNNER

Black Beauty hit a milestone this week.

Cosmic Bowling

Nov. 29th we headed out in the evening to bowl. We have not been bowling in forever, and it totally shows. Paul won the first game and Cyndi won the second game. After this evening I have decided that we need to go bowling more often (any takers).

The Doctor Is In

In August I tried to take my mom to the Dr. Phil show. The show we got tickets for ended up being his big intro to a new Weight Loss Challenge. Mom and I ended up sitting out side for hours and hours, she never got to see Dr. Phil or a show! We just clapped for the teams as they came "running" by. Because of the way this show was handled we were given passes and invited back to be VIP guests to a future show.

Veteran's Day was the only available date I was off work and able to go so Mom drove up and off we went. It was great we got to park on the lot, had free coffee and waited just a short while before we were taken in to see a show and a half in some terrific seats. Once the show was through Mom and I were escorted back and had the chance to meet and talk with Dr. Phil we ended our visit with a quick photo opp.

Tradition

For the last few years Paul and I have been "camping" outside of a store on Thanksgiving in preparation for Black Friday. Occasionally we have people who tag along and this year we were happy to have TK along for the adventure. This year we were outside of Circuit City hoping to get some electronics and DVD's at incredible prices. Unlike years past I could not keep my eyes open to watch a movie, listen to iPod or do puzzle books. I climbed into my sleeping bag and crashed as much as I could. Next to us was a very loud group of boys who talked for 5 hours straight. I never knew guys could talk SO much! Paul was up the entire time, apparently the coffee I got him had him wired and he literally did laps around the parking lot for almost 2 hours. We made it through the night and did not get trampled in the morning! We were able to accomplish our mission and cross a few people of our list. All in all a good start to this holiday season.

Thanksgiving weekend

We had our second Thanksgiving dinner tonight down in San Diego. Thursday night we were with my family, and then had a turkey dinner with Cyndi's mom tonight. We managed to do a good portion of our Christmas shopping the past couple of days. Those we haven't bought for, we at least know what we're going to get. Gizmo has been trying to make friends with Meeko and Buddy. There was some hissing back and forth at first. Mostly the older cats are just trying to avoid Gizmo. One of them scratched him when he followed them into Sharon's room. No one has confessed yet. We'll be down here until tomorrow evening then heading home.

overload

Every time we have been on a cruise they have a Choco-holics night. The entire chef's crew creates a banquet of cakes, candies, and masterpieces of chocolate. The guests have the opportunity to walk through and look at the feast and take photos. Then about an hour later it is opened up and you can come through and sample anything you want. Everything looks so amazing and tastes just as good. Plus its a bonus that all the children get hopped up on sugar at 10pm! Here are some photos of our Alaskan Chocolate Banquet.

I am so thankful for all of you, my family and friends. Have a wonderful day filled with great conversation, memory making and good food. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Kickin it ol' school '98 what what!

circa June 1998
On Friday I will be going to my 10 year HS reunion. I know what you're thinking Cyndi cannot possibly be old enough to have been out of HS for 10 years, or well at least I am thinking that. I have mixed feelings about going. There will be a handful of peeps that it will be good to see again, who I just lost touch with, without meaning to. But I feel inadequate to be there like I should have done more by now. Luckily I will have my TK and Erin there with me. So I will go with a positive attitude (and maybe a few drinks in me) and we WILL have a good time.

circa October 2008

Oh and a question for you all, what is dressy casual? That is our dress code. I know what dressy is and I know what casual is. I even know what business casual is but what on earth is dressy casual? Help a sista out.

And now for something completely random....

It's amazing what you can find saved on your computer. I was going through some pictures we have saved and found these. Discuss amongst yourselves (or in the comments). Enjoy!

This is not a good post.

It's just one of those days when I don't know what to post.

Yeah.

Lots of tobacco issues at work today.  Kids smoking it.  Kids chewing it.  Even one kid who couldn't get any chewing tobacco, but still wanted to be cool so he made his own "chaw" from emptying out cigarette butts he found on the ground.

They're smart I tell ya.

Not much else going on.  I have Thanksgiving off so only 2 more days left this week and still trying to get Sunday off so I can have a 4 day weekend.

Finally Scheduled

My mom has been waiting and waiting on a list to have knee replacement surgery. We finally have a set date of when the surgery will take place, December 19th. We are glad she received a date when I would be able to have time off from work (Christmas break) so that I can help her. This is good news as she is in pain, cannot move around a lot or walk very far. But sort of a downer as it is going to be taking place just days before Christmas. Please pray for the surgeons to complete a successful surgery, that my mom will be able to heal quickly and be able to feel an immediate difference in her joint pain.

I don't advocate graffiti, but this is amazing.

Jealous?

This was my lucky day!  I finally won the lottery!  Well, not the California Lottery, but a lottery nonetheless.  Apparently the UK Lottery is doing a promotion where they award cash prizes based on random email addresses collected by their computers before the drawing.  I didn't even have to waste money buying a ticket!  I just hope they can get me my money in time for me to quit my job before they try and make me work Christmas.

By the way, does anyone know how much £1,200,000 is?  I'd like to start making my plans now.  Thanks!
